BATTERY CAGED HENS
A global shift COSTA ignores
WHY “cage-free”?
Hens in cages suffer from limited space and restricted movement, which prevents them from engaging in natural behaviors and leads to high stress and frustration.
Each hen in a battery cage is given only 67-86 square inches of space—less than the size of a sheet of paper—leaving them unable to spread their wings or move naturally. Hens are unable to perch, nest, dust-bathe, or forage, causing severe psychological distress and unnatural, repetitive stress behaviors.

INJURIES and trauma.
Wire cage floors cause painful foot disorders, overgrown claws, and open lesions, while sloped designs lead to chronic discomfort and injuries. Battery cages deny hens their natural behaviors, such as scratching, nesting, and foraging, leading to chronic stress, frustration, and harmful repetitive behaviors.

Prolonged suffering.
Costa Coffee’s hypocrisy is clear: the second-largest coffee shop in the world sells meals subsidized by animal torture. Customers deserve better than unwittingly funding a system of abuse.
Costa Coffee must choose: align with global ethics or be exposed as a purveyor of suffering masquerading as a quality cafe.

Cups of Cruelty
DEMAND Costa Coffee
end cages Globally!
Costa’s hypocrisy is staggering. They serve caged eggs from suppliers whose filthy, feces-caked cages would violate some U.S. and EU regulations.
This isn’t oversight—it’s exploitation. Costa’s 2025 global pledge is a smokescreen to please critics while delaying action,
